Even the best mainstream educational academies keep computer programming within silos of logic, computation or critical thinking. Only boutique STEM academies like KiddyPi brainstorm to upgrade the coding sessions with the most important elements of learning i.e., imagination & creativity.

Famous quotes of stalwarts shouldn’t be the props in the offices. We believe that they should be lived. Our Python programming event was specially inspired by the electric thoughts of Swami Vivekananda!

On 16th January, 2021, we organized Scratch and Python coding events for 6 to 10 year olds and 11 to 16 year olds, respectively. The Makar Sankranti Special Creative Writing event was held on 16th January, 2021. The Scratch coding event also celebrated an integral part of the festival.

The highlights of our coding events were:

• a) To introduce the basics and magic of Scratch programming
• b) To provide some fun facts about the Makar Sankranti festival
• c) To translate kite-flying excitement into coding
• d) To express some thoughts of Swami Vivekananda through coding
• e) To introduce the basics and magic of Python programming

Scratch Coding Event

Colourful kites keep on drawing our attention irrespective of our age. From magnificent parafoil kites to humble diamond kites, we can’t but continue gazing as they ascend to the skies.

Kite flying is an integral part of the Makar Sankranti festival. We ensured that coding sessions echo that spirit. Scratch coding challenges included how to design unique kites or how to add more colourful flutterers!

Some participants shared their own experiences of flying kites during Makar Sankranti. We hope that those who haven’t flown kites yet, also enjoyed their kite-flying coding sessions.

Python Coding Event

Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and words are timeless. Every year we celebrate Swami Ji’s birth anniversary as the National Youth Day on 12th January. On the occasion of the 158th birth anniversary, we relived one of his world-renowned quotations through Python programming.

It seems to many of us that every word of this quotation reverberates with electrifying energy, optimism and courage. We wanted to convey the same via our Python coding session.

We simulated hurdles for participants which they were to overcome and move on relentlessly, till they reach the goal! The participants learnt about interesting Python functions on the way!

The Python coding challenge was to solve a maze using animated characters. The thrill could be felt during the whole event!

Heritage, tradition, culture and values, on a robust STEM foundation are the building blocks of a prosperous future for India and the world. We will keep up the tempo with more fun-learning events and online courses for K+12 participants. They will reflect diverse aspects of our heritage on a smart STEM platform.
